National Pathology Week (NPW) is an annual celebration of pathology,organised by the Royal College of Pathologists. The aim of the week is to highlight the important contribution pathologists make to healthcare. Working in partnership with pathologists and laboratory scientists, the programme of events and activities aims to engage people of all ages, and improve public awareness and understanding of how pathologists and scientists diagnose disease.This year's theme is Pathology is vital highlighting the essential work pathologists and clinical scientists do to help patients. In this case study, Zubiah Iqbal, Specialist Biomedical Scientist at Bolton NHS Foundation shares his insight on the vital role he plays in patient care.

National Eye Health Week takes place each year at the end of September to promote the importance of good eye health. In this case study we hear from Joanne Fu and Awais Ahmad, Specialist Ophthalmic Science Practitioners (OSP) in Glaucoma at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital on the role they play in helping patients with their vision. Manchester Royal Eye Hospital is part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, who is a member of the Greater Manchester Diagnostics Network.

World Sleep Day is an annual event, intended to be a celebration of sleep and a call to action on important issues related to sleep, including medicine, education, social aspects and driving. It is organized by the World Sleep Day Committee of the World Sleep Society and aims to lessen the burden of sleep problems on society through better prevention and management of sleep disorders. In this case study we hear from Agnieszka Matthews, Senior Sleep Physiologist at Trafford General Hospital on the role she plays in helping patients with their sleep. Trafford General Hospital is part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, who is a member of the Greater Manchester Diagnostics Network.

As part of Healthcare Science Week 2024 , Carolyn Fielden, Highly Specialist Paediatric Audiologist at Northern Care Alliance shares her insight into a career in Audiology. Northern Care Alliance is a member of the Greater Manchester Diagnostics Network. ​

World Hearing Day is held on 3 March each year to raise awareness on how to prevent deafness and hearing loss and promote ear and hearing care across the world. In this case study we hear from Jennifer Baxendale, who works at the Royal Oldham Hospital as Adult Audiology Team Leader.  The Royal Oldham Hospital is part of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust, which is a member of the Greater Manchester Diagnostics Network and the newly formed Greater Manchester Physiological Sciences Network.

This week is National Apprenticeship Week, which is a week dedicated to celebrating the skills and achievements of apprentices. In this case study we hear from Sarah Green, who works in the Department of Biochemistry at Wythenshawe Hospital, part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. Sarah is an Associate Practitioner who is currently doing the level 6 apprenticeship in Health Care Science degree. Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is part of the Greater Manchester Pathology Network.
