Development of Greater Manchester Imaging and Pathology Networks is essential to fulfil the National mandate set out by NHS Improvement for regional imaging partnerships.
In November 2019, NHSI published a report ‘Transforming imaging services in England: a national strategy for imaging networks’ which set out a proposal for implementing collaborative imaging networks on a national basis across England, delivering better quality care, better value services for patients and providing NHS staff opportunities to develop their career and increase their productivity.
The report mandated that formal imaging networks should be agreed and established through two phases:
- Phase 1 - Creation of 24 imaging networks by 2022
- Phase 2 - Consolidation of 24 networks into 18 imaging networks by 2023
