GM Pharmacy Sustainability

The GM Pharmacy Programme is supporting sustainability initiatives to work towards the NHS Net Zero aims, while ensuring patient safety, quality and savings are considered.

These sustainability initiatives are focussing on respiratory (including inhalers), prevention - IV to oral switches, education on sustainability and pharmacy waste/recycling.

CPD training is available to pharmacy staff and colleagues to update them on the need to prioritise sustainability throughout the services.  The materials and a recording of a training session is available from the-christie.gmpharmacy@nhs.net

A Good Practice Guide is being developed from GM pharmacy colleagues’ input to capture ideas and national and GM Pharmacy resources, and can be used to consider what sustainability initiatives can be implemented in trusts’ services or teams.

The “Your Medicines Matter” campaign has been launched as part of this programme across Greater Manchester, involving both Primary and Secondary Care, with positive benefits for reducing medicines waste, improving quality of service to patients, optimising use of medicines for patient care and therefore saving costs and time. Your Medicines Matter :: Greater Manchester Diagnostics Network

Communications Materials for “Your Medicines Matter” are available from the GM Provider Trusts’ communications leads or the GM Pharmacy Programme: the-christie.gmpharmacy@nhs.net.
