With responsibility for providing imaging service advice, direction and leadership, Catherine will help shape the development of the network within Greater Manchester and more widely across the Northwest as Regional Radiographer. Catherine will work closely with the Chief Officer of the network, taking a strategic overview of the following areas:

  • The workforce agenda in response to the Richard’s report and sustainable staffing succession planning, as well as the continued development of an Imaging Workforce Strategy
  • The importance of the utilisation of training academies and the need to promote a fair and supportive working culture.
  • The continued implementation of digital interfaces/platforms to support cross organisational collaborative working and improve patient examination turnaround times.
  • The need to improve productivity via mutually supportive new ways of working and sharing best practice across the network.
  • Supporting the physical facilities and infrastructure for service delivery such as funds for equipment replacement and the continued development of Community Diagnostics Centres

Catherine brings a wealth of knowledge to the team who started her imaging career as a radiographer at Manchester Royal Infirmary before working overseas and then returning to the UK to work in the private sector. Catherine returned to the NHS in Preston to specialise in MR, CT and Neuro Radiography before venturing into service management. Catherine gained a promotion and went on to become Radiology Service Manager at Bolton whilst also studying for her MBA whilst there.

In 2016, Catherine was appointed as Divisional Director for Imaging which brought her back to Manchester before becoming Deputy Director of Operations for Clinical Support Services at Manchester University Hospitals Foundation Trust.

Commenting on the appointment, Chris Slight, Chief Officer of the Imaging network said: “I am delighted that Catherine is joining us as Associate Programme Director.
