Following the departure of Dr Angeles Montero in December 2023 from bothDr. Stephanie Edwards.PNG her substantive role within the Greater Manchester (GM) Pathology Network and her role as joint Clinical Lead for the GM Digital Pathology Programme, we are delighted to have appointed Dr. Stephanie Edwards, Consultant Histopathologist at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. We would like to thank Dr. Angeles Montero for her contributions as Clinical Lead since the programme began in 2020.

Stephanie specialises in Head & Neck and has worked within GM for four years, having previously worked at the Northern Care Alliance. We are delighted to have Stephanie as part of our GM Digital Pathology programme team, and she will provide clinical expertise to the programme on behalf of the region alongside Dr Luisa Motta, who is based at Salford Royal.

Supported by organisational Digital Pathology clinical champions, we now look forward to driving this programme at pace to achieve ‘technical’ go live in all seven of our laboratories by April 2025.

We currently have two laboratories technically live (Stockport & Oldham), with both laboratories at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust to follow this month. We are currently working closely with the Northern Care Alliance to support Oldham with their clinical go live this month. They will be the first site to implement scanning to enable their Consultant Histopathologists and trainees to complete their stage four digital pathology validation and training to enable digital reporting soon.

We are aware that the implementation of Digital Pathology will be a significant change for Pathology departments across Greater Manchester and would like to thank the teams involved for their continued support.
